GrandadsSqueezebox Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Following on from my post of the 11th June; my Grandfathers Jeffries Concertina is being auctioned at Gardiner Houlgate on 17th September(please bid generously!). The catalogue is available on-line, and it is Lot 656. Not a very full description given in the catalogue, but as stated previously it is fully restored and tuned to C/G. I can email a short recording of it being played to anyone considering bidding.

GrandadsSqueezebox Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 Thanks for the link(beyond my computer skills!). The Jeffries was restored by Nigel Sture of Devon, in June this year. Its history as far as I know it:- My family was firmly based in East London, and both my Great Grandfather & Grandfather worked on the Thames. My Grandfather was a Waterman and I believe the first Jeffries owner. It passed to my father in the 1920's. he was a member of the Homeguard in the 1940's,and I know he played it in the Air-raid shelter during the Blitz to keep up morale. He was unable to play it following a stroke in the 1950's; the last time it was played. I decided to have it restored, because I wanted to hear it before it was sold, and am very pleased I did.
