There is a little lever by the right thumb.

It has rings for a neck strap and wrist straps already fitted.

If the number is correct then it is from 1921??

8-sided Aeola TT from 1921; one of a batch of 12 identical instruments. Hardly "Victorian", but a very nice instrument if in good condition.

Looks like this concertina has had quite a hard life, and from the verdigris and white deposits on the leather, not all of that life has been spent in the dry. The state of the reeds would be an area of risk for anyone buying this without seeing/trying it first.

I have an Aeola that looks as hard used and the verdigris forms on the leather even though it is played every day. Mine plays wonderfully well even with patches on the bellows and a low drop test time ,however, the very worn end bolts of this auction model and the state of the wood work around those bolts does not bode well for the condition of the interior. Speaks of possible ham fisted repairs.

I agree with Myrtle's Cook....better to go try it than buy it blind.

Perhaps you should try it, as a second choices to that dream BT. . . .

A wee bit late for me to get to Edinburgh today Cee.

I am thinking to get to Mr.Algar's place later this month or perhaps "Concertinas at Witney" where he usually has a table full of desireable squeezologies.

Perhaps there is something for you I could try to find ?

[[[or perhaps "Concertinas at Witney where he usually has a table full of desirable squeezologies.]]]

ha, as it happens I just stumbled across two big color pix of a Barleycorn-o-copia at a recent event. Working on a recently updated computer system and the Copy/Paste function for links has stopped working in certain contexts, FB to this site being one. But on FB, if you keyword "West Country Concertina Players" their recent Aug 5 post contains two clickon-and-blow-up photos of a rainbow of Barleycorn concertinas on display on a big shelving unit . . . They're even loosely arranged by type, you can see the ECs, the Anglos, and some Maccanns off to the right . . . .
