Advance reservations, tel. 01603 713 836Our programme is called The Lady, the Buffon and other stories - British popular music through the ages, and features Susanna Borsch on recorders and voice, and me on anglo concertina and voice."In a concert of rich tapestry of tunes and songs from a variety of composers and styles, the duo Dapper’s Delight present their take on historical popular music sung and played on the unlikely combination of recorder and concertina. The programme takes its lead from the family of tunes known under various names, but most commonly as The Buffoon. There are hundreds of versions of the basic tune which itself is based on the pan-European ground, the passamezzo moderno. The selection comes from sources as diverse as a renaissance dance collection, a 16th-century German lute book, a 17th-century dancing compendium and several 19th-century Morris dances. The programme also contains several broadside ballads - popular songs from the 17th and 18th centuries that were sold and performed on the streets, other popular songs that appear in both composed and traditional sources and the selection is completed with a Cockney music hall song and even the odd pop song."Adrian

chas Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Lovely concert in York on Sunday, thanks, both. Wonderful to hear the anglo played in a more classical way and a fine range of harmonies/chords, both as a lead instrument and as accompaniment to that dazzling recorder playing. As promised, we had not only the 17th/18th century stuff but a bit of music hall and even a burst of David Bowie! A grand afternoon's music.

Thanks to the others who came along - we had a great time on the tour and we're already thinking about coming back next year, or in 2017. Adrian
