adrian brown Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I apologise in advance that this post has nothing to do with concertinas, but the Organetto is such an unknown instrument, I thought it might interest some concertina players to hear the preferred squeeze of the angels...https://soundcloud.com/christophedeslignes/01-christophe-deslignes-live-a-france-musique-28042015Adrian
DaveM Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Melodica world had a link to a portative organ video when I clicked on it from the "Looking for an Accordina" thread; so I already spent some time going down the rabbit hole of portative organ, regal, postive organ etc... videos Is an organetto the same thing as a portative organ?
Wolf Molkentin Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Hi Adrian - thanks for posting! Dave, as a "Portativ" organ I would expect a much bigger instrument in the shape of, say, a Hammond organ. With the label "Organetto" I'm familiar with from scanning Melodeons as available at E-bay, as it appears to be the Italian name for them... Best wishes - Wolf

Not sure it's the same thing, but the important difference between an organetto and an organ is the lack of reservoir, or wind chest, which means the bellows are in direct contact with the pipes. You can hear that organ pipes are much more pitch-sensitive to pressure change than free reeds and he uses this to shape his phrases beautifully with the bellows. Adrian
