Tune-O-Tron Not Working..?

Anyone else having trouble with the Tune-O-Tron..?

Hi Chris,

 

I'm not having any trouble myself as I'm using (offline) easyABC, which works perfectly fine.

 

However, I seem to recall that the Tune-O-Tron had to be deactivated because it got flooded with spam entries.

The c.net convert - a -matic does seem broken. Returns this message: "No image available -- there's probably a error in the ABC source causing the conversion to fail." I tested the files with other converters and they're OK, so there's something wrong here.

Sure enough, I get the same error. This is one for Paul; he strung together the code. I see references to this page all over the internet, so l know lots of other folks use it.

As I understand it, Tune-O-Tron as a tune library system was deactivated Quite some time ago, for the reasons quoted. But the Convert-O-Matic module was still working, allowing folks like me to convert ABC notation (e.g., Peter Dunk's generous transcriptions) to "dots" (aka "tadpoles", i.e., old-fashioned "standard" notation), including printable PDF versions, for our personal use, which we could then save elsewhere.

 

From the above posts, I gather that the Convert-O-Matic module has somehow broken down. I'll do some tests, but Paul's the only one who can do something about it, and if Ken has notified him, then we just have to wait.

Hope he can fix it, I use this feature a lot. My usual MO is to copy ABC,s from Thesession.org. Paste into convert -0- matic, make any changes to the tune and then submit and print. Easy and fast.

Same here ( but not, usually, thesession.org)

Again, you could easily do that with likely any of the freeware programms...

Any chance of posting that link where the converter has been? I'm not going to remember it. In fact, I often didn't remember where to find the Convert-O-Matic URL, and I was glad that I could follow a link from the concertina.net main page.

I think this is actually a more useful ABC converter; has transposing functions built in, easy to save as PDFs.

 

Many thanks to Paul for years of great service with the Tune-a-Tron. I've used a variety of freeware and shareware ABC programs for well over a decade; they all work OK, but the Tune-A-Tron was just so darned convenient.

 

It's OK to see it go because there are now adequate alternatives - no doubt because of the pioneering effort of Paul and concertina.net.

Here's another online converter with a few cool features like displaying notation as you type in the editing window and handling whole tunebooks as well as creating PDFs and midi files. It's simple, basic and straightforward.
