Anyone For Heavy Metal?

Recommended Posts

One day I knew I'd find a use for those extra buttons with Ab on the pull...

This is a version of "Belus Doed" by Burzum. Intense repetition intact, buzzsaw guitars, drums, and burning-alive-down-the-bottom-of-a-well vocals gone and replaced with a frosty chorale and, er, morris jig.

" Anyone For Heavy Metal?"

Not me.

I know tastes differ, but though I like many more kinds of music of music than I can do myself, the little heavy metal I've listened to (directed by friends) hasn't attracted me to want to hear more; mostly it's repulsed me or "at best" left me indifferent.

But I have learned that Stuart does some good stuff, so I listened.

Hmm.

I would like to hear this in a full metal band arrangement, along with drums, guitars and vocals :)

So I listened to that, too.

Well, the "original" impressed me as somewhere between boring and annoying. No surprise, I guess. Stuart's version, on the other hand, I found almost enjoyable, though overly (too my taste) repetitive (which, as I understand it, is the intent ;)). I don't know if he would consider that a compliment or not. But it sounds to me like he's done a good job of what he set out to do.

and Stuart singing it. maybe then I'd be able to understand the words.

My Norwegian is non-existent I'm afraid...

I found a page with the lyrics and an English translation. Here's the URL:

http://lyrics.wikia.com/Burzum:Belus'_Død/en

Oddly enough, if I use the Forum editor to make that a "link", the Forum software apparently doesn't accept the apostrophe as valid and truncates the URL, sending one to a nonexistent page:

http://lyrics.wikia.com/Burzum:Belus

However, if I just include the URL as part of my post's text (as I have done), my browser independently recognizes it as a URL, and a click sends me to the right page. (If that doesn't work for you, try copying the URL and pasting it into your browswer.)

There's one obvious error in the English: In the first verse, the Norwegian word "saks" is "translated" as "seax". Don't know where that came from, but the correct meaning is "scissors" or (more in keeping with the style) "shears".

One more thing about differing tastes: I feel that if there are words, they should be heard, and preferably understood. Varg Vikernes (i.e., Burzum) apparently feels otherwise. B)
