Eight-Sided Non Aeola Wheatstones?

Recently an early Wheatstone rosewood-ended bone-buttoned single-action bass sold at an auction. It has eight sides.

 

 

I wonder if that was a one-off and special to this bass or if Wheatstone made other eight-sided instruments before the "invention" of the Aeola?

I own a Maccann duet which is sort of the opposite - it's listed in the ledgers as an Aeola, but has 6 sides...
