Program / App For Music Scoring?

I'm still learning my way around a new Mac after a lifetime of "the other'. I lost Audacity in the transfer, I suppose I'd better reload? I cannot remember if this program also offers the ability to score some music? Can you add and delete notes in a score? Or where should I look for such? ....a blank music score where you can type in notes, dots, with all those flags and tales and holes and tabeture???

No, Audacity is just an audio recorder and editor. For scores, try MuseScore or an ABC Notation editor like EasyABC.

I'll also give a shout to Lilypond, which I've been learning to use lately. It's a music "engraver" which requires you learn some markup somewhat similar to ABC. There's a robust community around it, and also a very good semi-GUI called Frescobaldi which can help lessen some of the burden of the markup conventions.

You might also look at Finale Notepad, which has a free download and lists Mackintosh as one of its platforms. I haven't really looked at it closely, as I'm still fairly happy using their for-pay version from 1997 (before they had the free version), but the format is the same, and the description sounds like it would be plenty for what you want to do.

On the thread topic (or at least near it), I have four music notation programs on my iPad that I use infrequently. Not that same as programs on a Mac, but maybe you have an iPad and hadn't considered it as a medium for sheet music creation.

Lilypond is capable of very fine printed music. Possibly a bit much for most daily uses. I don't know Frescobaldi but use Denemo as front end for easy input. Musescore is very nice (and free) as well. That all said and done, for a quick notation I'd go to a simple ABC editor like EasyABC, and I'll admit to still using ABC2Win after all these years.

I found my way to iWrite Music on my iPad and love it. It is capable of multi score writing, but I just use it for writing out tunes. It does a great job, the authors are responsive and being able to hear what you write and proof play it has saved me a lot of errors. It has pretty much all the standard symbols and produces a nice clean output you can print direct (wifi) or e'mail to yourself or like I do, to my students. The free version plasters a big watermark across the printed page, but the pay version isn't that expensive. It has really speeded up the process for me and produced much nicer results.
