Bruce McCaskey Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Did anyone else notice the recent New York Times article about Matty Talty? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/26/nyregion/matty-talty-a-musical-concierge-from-county-clare.html?_r=0
Frank Dudgeon Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Bruce, That's a great article. Thanks for pointing us to it. Frank

Doug Barr Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Matty is a great guy...fun to be around and to listen to his stories, and he still has a handshake like a pair of vice - grips. I get to play with him once in a while when I make to the Landmark. We should all be so lucky to be 91 and still going out to pubs to play.
Dowright Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) It's fair to say that the International Concertina Association (ICA) got to Matthew Talty before the New York Times and with more information about him. See my article co-authored with his son (also Matthew): "The Old Man with the Cap: Matthew Talty and His Concertina," Concertina World (Magazine of the ICA), No. 455 (2013), pp. 2-7. ceemonster Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) Have enjoyed tunes, jokes and talk with Marty in the Catskills and in NYC. another example of the long-term benefits of the Concertina Life. From the NYT article linked by the OP [[[The Particulars Name Matty Talty Age 91 Where He’s From Ennis, Ireland What He Is Retired builder, concertina player Telling Detail After 60 years of not playing, when he got an instrument in his 80s, he said, he could recall all the old songs. “They were all still in there,” he said, pointing to his head.]]] Edited October 30, 2014 by ceemonster
