Black Country Chainstore Massacre - Pop Will Eat Itself

Recommended Posts

This is the last of the pop things I still have lying around that feature concertina - a jolly little number about falling in love with the girl behind the till by Stourbridge's finest, Pop Will Eat Itself. Again this was recorded sometime around 2006-2007, I think.

Great song… really like this one too! I'm hoping that some members might be inspired by these songs to share a few more "pop things"… I would love to hear the concertina take over a slightly more leading role at times… like step up and replace a lead guitar riff with a concertina riff...

I've been playing around with some songs that contain fairly dominant accordions… for example by Tom Waits and Ry Cooder, but I'm not quite ready to share my humble efforts just yet… but I'm working on it!

Cheers, John

Thanks John - I've done others in the past. I have a slightly mad idea of doing the whole of Telegraph Road by Dire Straits using nothing but voice and massively-overdubbed concertinas, but it'll have to wait until the current wave of house renovation is complete!

And please do share when you feel ready!

Stuart, this is a great example of concertina use I would very like to hear more often!

And I agree with John, that you should try to add something like leading concertina interlude/solo. And maybe mix tracks in a bit different way, so that concertina isn't as much in the background (this is a very common thing though with free reed instruments in general to treat them as an underlying filling, especially when there is a leading guitar or brass section involved)
