JimLucas Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Some you may already have seen this; another example of the tune played by a Scandanavian group and featuring an anglo concertina. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=-_zBhMslWV0 Their web site says they're in Mendocino, California, and "The Zekley Family Band plays music from Ireland, Scotland, America, England and Europe." Doesn't mean they can't play Scandinavian tunes, but I don't think it qualifies them as "a Scandanavian group".
Jim Besser Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) After a chat with Daria about different keys for Emma's, I gave it a try in Dm on the 30 button C/G Anglo. For me, the only downside was not having a good chord/harmony note for the first note in the B part. This was good practice for me - I always have a hard time playing melody on the left side and chording on the right; I'm subject to periodic spasms of regression to the more usual left/right pattern. https://soundcloud.com/concertinist/emmas-waltz-dmmp3mp3 Think I prefer Bm on the G/D (or Em on the C/G) Edited June 23, 2014 by Jim Besser
Robert Fisher Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Thanks for the encouragment. I find it supprising when a tune like this falls easily beneath my fingers (and frustrating when it doesn't). Hopefully that will happen more and more.
Sarah Swett Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Gosh, it always seems that we start voting on next month's tune before I've had the wherewithal to record the current one. But today I actually did it with a few days to spare. So here is a go at Emma's Waltz -- single melody line as is most comfortable for me, but perhaps eventually I'll get better at playing with Garage Band and figure out how to accompany myself. A lovely tune to play. Now, maybe I can manage a polka too? https://soundcloud.com/mildredestelle/emmas-waltz Sarah

There's still plenty of time left in the month for a polka - I'm still sweating over the one I want to record and submit.
brandon Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) Belated first post to TOTM! After practicing the tune for 2 months and deleting countless takes, I finally had to settle on a track. I really love some of the different versions of this tune. My so-called harmony has more to do with where my fingers were consistently willing to land at any given moment than anything else. Played on a Morse Geordie. https://soundcloud.c...rco/emmas-waltz Edited August 2, 2014 by brandon

Wolf Molkentin Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 What about this one? https://soundcloud.com/burro_tuerco/emmas-waltz (which would give a surprisingly well played and interesting debut as for me!)
brandon Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Thanks Wolf for both the comment and the help with the link. I edited my previous post to reflect the correct link.
alex_holden Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 I really enjoyed that, Brandon. The choice of harmony notes sound great to my ear.
maki Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) Some fantastic playing of this fine waltz! This one, not so much; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fammlonMlsk Edited October 1, 2014 by maki

SteveS Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) I've just realised (at the risk of being pedantic ) this tune is commonly called simply Emma. Edited October 2, 2014 by SteveS
