Tune Of The Month, June 2014: Emma's Waltz

Some you may already have seen this; another example of the tune played by a Scandanavian group and featuring an anglo concertina.

Their web site says they're in Mendocino, California, and "The Zekley Family Band plays music from Ireland, Scotland, America, England and Europe."

Doesn't mean they can't play Scandinavian tunes, but I don't think it qualifies them as "a Scandanavian group".

After a chat with Daria about different keys for Emma's, I gave it a try in Dm on the 30 button C/G Anglo.

For me, the only downside was not having a good chord/harmony note for the first note in the B part.

This was good practice for me - I always have a hard time playing melody on the left side and chording on the right; I'm subject to periodic spasms of regression to the more usual left/right pattern.

Think I prefer Bm on the G/D (or Em on the C/G)

Gosh, it always seems that we start voting on next month's tune before I've had the wherewithal to record the current one. But today I actually did it with a few days to spare.

So here is a go at Emma's Waltz -- single melody line as is most comfortable for me, but perhaps eventually I'll get better at playing with Garage Band and figure out how to accompany myself. A lovely tune to play.

Now, maybe I can manage a polka too?

Very nice, thanks!

There's still plenty of time left in the month for a polka - I'm still sweating over the one I want to record and submit.

Belated first post to TOTM!

After practicing the tune for 2 months and deleting countless takes, I finally had to settle on a track. I really love some of the different versions of this tune. My so-called harmony has more to do with where my fingers were consistently willing to land at any given moment than anything else. Played on a Morse Geordie.

The first TOTM try is always the hardest!

Can you check the link? I'm getting a soundcloud error.

Nicely done. Love how you made it your own. Well worth the wait.
