Jody Kruskal Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I had a great time on my recent UK tour. Here are 2 performances on youtube. "The Lightning Express" also called "Please Mr. Conductor" at the Devizes Folk Club, November 25, 2013, http://youtu.be/uz2pxCd1z4A and "Bravest Cowboy" at Shammick Acoustic Folk Club Nov. 23, 2013, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAWc4yUHRl4
Kelteglow Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Brilliant Performance Jody. I would love to learn to accompany songs like you do. Merry Christmas & Hapy New Year to you and Yours . Bob
Jody Kruskal Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 Bob, it was delightful to meet you and your family in Devizes. Your Cornish song was a high point of the evening that night... perhaps more, next year in Penzance?

So, this is what you get up to on tour when left to your own devices, Jody! BTW, the tune reminds me a bit, of an old English music hall tune. Do you know its origin? Chris
Jody Kruskal Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 Hi Chris, Actually, the original title was "Please Mr. Conductor". This tearjerker was written by J. Fred Helf and E. P. Moran, and published in 1898. But as you can see, I do not sing it to the original tune. I learned it from Tony Saletan in the 1970s. He sang it at a festival workshop titled “Sing ‘Em and Weep”. To the best of my memory, the tune I use is the one Tony sang.

Having now listened to both songs, the chorus tune is very similar in both songs. Funnily enough, as soon as my wife heard Jody singing the chorus, she said it reminded her of "Don't jump of the roof dad", too. Chris
