Pete Dunk Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Sorry if this has been posted before but I stumbled across this this evening and it struck me as a pretty good version of the song. I'm not overly convinced of the provenance of the song being properly 'trad' in general but it's a fine rendition of a good song with 'tina accompanyment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9IOKUTjSAQ
John Wild Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 (edited) I believed the song was written by Ewan McColl for the radio ballad Singing the fishing. RIP Lou Killen Edited August 11, 2013 by John Wild
Pete Dunk Posted August 10, 2013 Author Posted August 10, 2013 Yes, Ewan McColl sounds right, apologies for suggesting it might have been trad. More senior moments!
Dave Rogers Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I have heard a (possibly apocryphal) story that the tune has migrated to Ireland and, with a different set of words, been "re-imagined" as "Shores of Erin".
