Geoff Wooff Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I have seen an 18 button English semi miniature concertina for sale and I do recall these being discussed but cannot find the thread. Suposed to be 114mm across and has a ten fold bellows. So, does anybody have knowledge of these ? Thanks for any comments, Geoff.
Greg Jowaisas Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Hi Geoff, Here is a link to House of Musical Traditions over here in Maryland who sells an 18b semi=miniature Stagi with 10 folds. http://www.hmtrad.com/catalog/winds/sbx/sbx-engl.html Is this the instrument you were thinking of? Greg

Geoff Wooff Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Hi Geoff, Here is a link to House of Musical Traditions over here in Maryland who sells an 18b semi=miniature Stagi with 10 folds. http://www.hmtrad.com/catalog/winds/sbx/sbx-engl.html Is this the instrument you were thinking of? Greg Hi Greg, yes this is the thing... except that my advertiser states that it is a Salterelle , which he/she suggests is of better quality... ? Thanks for finding this. And thank Graham for those links.
hjcjones Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Salterelle are a brand of accordions and melodeons but they don't build them themselves, they come from other manufacturers. I didn't know they'd done concertinas, but if so the quality would depend on who supplied them - in this case it sounds like that might have been Stagi.
Theo Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 There are no concertinas on the Saltarelle website, as Howard says they don't manufacture themselves, they do the design and the marketing, and I would be very surprised if they had a concertina for sale but did not include it on their website. It is possible that they offered a concertina in the past, and have since dropped it, or that there is a prototype somewhere for a new model. But I think the most likely explanation Geoff is that your advertiser is getting the names mixed up.
Mike Franch Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I have the Stagi mini that I bought used from a cnet member, a purchase I've been delighted with. I'm a little apologetic about the tone, but people who don't know concertinas think it's lovely. It fits into my computer bag and I take it everywhere. I'd love to have a G# and an Eb, but there'd be no room inside. Stagi quality: the F# button is slanted and doesn't seem fixalble, but it works. It's got great volume. The thumb and pinky straps on each sides give pretty good control, but I find my hands cramp if I play it too long. I wouldn't have bought one at new instrument prices, but it's a great little instrument.
Geoff Wooff Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Thanks for all the information everyone. It certainly looks exactly like the Stagi model.. so perhaps it is just "re-badged" or the seller has got the name confused. Unfortunately it is at the other end of the country and I don't think I want to buy-without-a-try..... hence this topic and questions. Cheers, Geoff.
