Concertina Cases

Recommended Posts

Often a conversation in this forum, I noticed this link on the posting for the sale of a Jeffries ( see Buy & Sell).

They look expensive but great protection for a beautiful concertina ..............see the advert itself for an image of the case.

Poor website - could have expanded much more on eg the gallery of completed cases, as well as other details.

Are these cases suitable as flight cases I wonder.

Does anyone here have experience of these cases?

Hello Robin,

Presumably you're meaning the advert I placed here?

As SteveS has observed, the website isn't especially very friendly. I did some research when I first bought the Jeffries about having a bespoke solution. I can't exactly remember why I went with Kingham, but I found them to be very friendly over the phone... and up for the challenge of a concertina case. (It seems like most of the bespoke case people I contacted tended to cater for guitars or orchestral instruments. :( ) And yes, it wasn't inexpensive to have the case fitted.

That said, I've felt it to be an excellent investment to protect the Jeffries, which was a major investment at the time! Though I've travelled with the Jeffries in its Kingham case, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting the instrument go too far out of my sight--so wouldn't be keen on having it travel as checked baggage. (Too valuable to go walk-a-bout!)

I'm plenty happy to knock pint glasses and music stands over with it (in the case), though. The instrument is very well protected for this sort of thing, and I feel like it has been money well spent.

.................and here's another, much cheaper alternative that apparently you can drive a truck over.

You never know.

I have one of these and like it a lot. Very positive double latches and seals hermetically which is great in very dry or wet environments. Tough as nails.

I don't think it would take anything bigger than a standard vintage concertina - 6" across the flats..

Mine is black rather than olive drab - there is also a yellow one.

Here is an even cheaper source with the other colours:
