bazza Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 I have solder on some reeds to change the note on my AngIo.I would like to revert back to the original note, any suggestions ?
Chris Timson Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 This is, I'm afraid, not a job for anyone save an expert. Reeds are remarkably easy to ruin, and represent more than half the value of your concertina. I suggest you contact someone listed here, the Makers and Repairers section of the Concertina FAQ. Chris
Chris Ghent Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 Taking solder off a reed is actually quite straightforward (ie. heat it with a soldering iron and it will run off, make sure it doesn't run into the gap between the reed and shoe), but will almost certainly leave you in a position where you will have to tune and set the reed, which is not quite as straightforward. What's the bigger picture here? Did someone convert a C/G to Bf/F or G/D by solder? Chris
JimLucas Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 Taking solder off a reed is actually quite straightforward (ie. heat it with a soldering iron and it will run off,... Can't you also destroy the temper of the reed if you get the it too hot? And isn't the expertise that lets you safely avoid that calamity something that comes with experience? I know that's an expertise I don't have. That's one "repair" I would prefer to leave to the pros.
bazza Posted September 26, 2004 Author Posted September 26, 2004 Thanks for the advice ,Iwill get in the pros its a Jeffries anglo cant afford any mistakes,Bazza
Stephen Chambers Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 its a Jeffries anglo Bazza, Are you talking about just a handful of the low reeds in your Jeffries ? If so it is probably totally original, and correct, as Jeffries made them like that. Cheers,
bazza Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 No Stephen they are not original I had them done to match the Lachenal tunings of my other two Anglos ,Good luck,Bazza
