I have at present on my bench an interesting 'tina that looks as though it was marketed by J.J.Vickers, concertina dealer.

Here are some particulars:

- Tenor-treble EC 56 key

- 6 sided

- flat ebonised ends with open simple scroll fretwork (as found on say Lachenal Popular model)

- 6 fold bellows

- good set of steel reeds

- serial number 55987

- J.J.Vickers branded case

- 'tina branded Lachenal & Co., and stamped internally J.J.Vickers

- same size as a treble model

Because of these characteristics, and the fact that Lachenal don't advertise a TT variant of this model (I know they did bespoke instruments), has me wondering whether J.J.Vickers had makers produce instruments to specification and/or price. Overall this instrument has quality, but it's in the simple fretworked ends, with the reeds packed into an instrument that is the same size as a treble.

There are precedents for made-to-spec instuments (eg Boyd, Salvation Army), but does anyone know whether J.J.Vickers also had instruments made to spec?
