Hello From L.a.

Recommended Posts

New member here from Southern California.

Currently with out a concertina, but selling things off and saving.

Probably get a Rochelle 30 botton tuned by Tedrow, if I don't come across a good

deal on the used market.

My interest is Irish Trad, anglo 'tinas, and the County Clare style.

I play tin whistle and have been for a couple years.

Dabbled with the conical flute, and struggled with uillean pipes.

I read the dots OK, abc not so much.

I've been to the local sessions in Long Beach a couple times (as a punter) and met some

concertina players.

Hello everyone!

Thanks for the welcome Fearfeasog. Do you play the Irish too?

My limited understanding is that anglos are good for a number of different folk

musics. And by he way what did you upgrade to after your Rochelle?

Yup I do play the Irish. or try, more like. Once I finished with the Rochelle, I moved up to a Morse Céilí. It's a nice box. Cost me about $2100, used, from the Button Box.

I had the Rochelle for about 3 months before I got a friend to lend me a Morse, then I saved enough to buy my own, so I gave his back. The Rochelle was great for what it was, but very big and not so responsive. The Morse, on the other hand, is a very nimble box--I have played pretty much all the anglos they have on the shelf at the Button Box, and the Morse performs right up there with the best, though the sound is NOT like a traditional concertina reeded instrument, but is pretty close.

though the sound [of the Morse] is NOT like a traditional concertina reeded instrument, but is pretty close.

- whereas (from hearing a similarly built Jackie - EC - recently) I'd guess the Rochelle isn't at all...

- but some players seem to like it (or the sound of a Stagi as well) anyway, and prefer it even to a Lachenal or the likes.

no it certainly isn't. it's all muffled and thick sounding, imo.

Hi Maki,

I'll be at the Auld Dubliner this Sunday, Mar 31 with my Wally Carroll #13... Come by and say hi!

Michael

Heya Michael!

I'll try to swing by for an hour two before work.

Are you going bring John?

Back from the Auld Dubliner session.

Three Anglos attended, Ken's Lachenal, Michael's Wally Carroll, and a young lady's immaculate Wheatstone.

Some lovely music being played.
