Robin Harrison
I'm looking for some replacement blades for this skiving knife. I can buy them online from taxidermy stores but the dispender reminds me awefully of the dispenser for shaving razor blades my old Dad used to use. Does anyone know if they are in fact tha same thing and are they still available ? Many Thanks Robin http://www.joecoombs.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=23_610
Geoff Wooff
I've never seen a Razor blade that looks like those.
Andy Holder
Robin, those blades look exactly the same as the Tandy Leather Factory blades. As Geoff said, I don't believe there's a razor that had narrow blades like that (38mmx8mm) I don't use mine now. I took the plunge and bought a Scharf Fix skiver (£300) and it is the most amazing bit of kit. Entirely manual but such a nicely engineered instrument. ben
You can buy a Scharf Fix knife and replacement blades...as well as other paring knives from TALAS of New York city (bookbinding supplies store). Here is the link: http://apps.webcreate.com/ecom/catalog/product_specific.cfm?ClientID=15&ProductID=17482 (They can even make you gold stamping tools so that you can stamp Jeffries or Lachenal designs onto your concertina straps or bellows. They sell gold ribbon too.)

Robin Harrison
Good spotting, Andy. I've ordered the replacement blades and for 7 bucks bought the skiver too. Many Thanks Robin
Andy Holder
Good luck. I never had the patience to get skilled with the hand tool! Andy.
Pete Dunk
I've never seen a Razor blade that looks like those. Schick razor blades use an injector to slide new blades into the side of the razor which is single sided.
