This Colonial is finally going to make a trip across the pond to visit the ancestral stomping grounds. I will likely be in Manchester, then West Yorkshire (Huddersfield/Marsden area) towards the end of May. Any suggestions for friendly sessions, festivals, etc.? I play anglo, and mostly play in English sessions and for a Longsword group here in Canada.

Hope I'm not too local for you Bill..but this Swaledale Squeeze-in....is not to be missed if you are in the area. This is of course 2012 but I'm sure 2013 will be a similar time.

It's loads of fun; fabulous area, interesting accomodation in Grinton, great beer on site, plenty of concertinas to play with, really nice people.......................shall I go on ?

I've been to Grinton Youth Hostel three times.......concertina, Morris, wife..........and could keep going back there . It's lovely.

Robin..............BTW Kate will love it too !

North and west Of Sheffield is the Royal Concertinas at Dungworth (unfortunate name) held at the the Royal Hotel www.royalhotel-dungworth.co.uk stop over and enjoy the ale. This should be within your radius of operations

This other "Colonial" (though currently living in Denmark) highly recommends the session at the Royal. :)

I haven't yet been to Swaledale, or I expect I'd be recommending that, too. ;)

Thanks everyone for the good suggestions. Swaledale sounds like it was meant to be- date and location are perfect. Robin, ain't it wonderful how the Inter-web lets us connect with exotic characters from far-off lands?tongue.gif I'll buy you a pint next time I see you at the Kiwi!
