Paul Read Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 (edited) Beautiful ends, 6-fold bellows, yet only a 20-button. I haven't seen one quite like this before. Asking a lot for it though. I wonder if the etching was done post-purchase. Lachenal Edited December 19, 2012 by Paul Read
david robertson Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I see it's back on eBay, having failed to attract any bids first time round. I have a suspicion that it's not just the engraving that's been added post-purchase. I wonder if the original ends have been entirely replaced? The current ones seem to be cut from unusually thick material, and there is no step at the edges.

Examination of the picture of the instrument in the case, idicates the presence of the periferal split to the endboxes necessary for wood or 'screwed on' metal tops. Interesting fretwork and etching/engraving, pity the outer frame of the left endbox has been assembled reversed, the 'tramline' moulding appears adjacent to the metal top instead of at the joint as on the right. malcolmbebb Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 (edited) I am wondering if the hand rests are reversed - the trademark legend looks upside down, facing out rather than facing the buttons, and is on the LH. The right hand rest doesn't quite look original. I don't have a metal ended Lachenal to compare, but I wonder about the material of the end plates. There is some apparent corrosion around the button holes. Pretty box. (post crossed with Geoff's, I got side tracked!) Edited December 30, 2012 by malcolmbebb
