I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere - I used the search function extensively before asking, but I am just getting into playing the concertina - I am currently playing (loose use of the word "playing") a cheap Chinese model (I know, I know...but I still love it, and it's still a better concertina than I am player at this stage) but I am already thinking of the "next stage".

So in perusing the old forum posts it seems the Morse Ceili was $1950 new in the 2010 posts, but the button box page now has it at $2450. The difference in price may just be due to changing prices of production, but I was wondering if there were any significant changes in the actual instrument behind this change (like with the Rochelle which went from one type of accordian reed to another and thus required a price rise)?

Just curious so if/when I ever do save enough pennies to upgrade I can make informed decisions about box-buying..

i don't believe there have been significant changes in this instrument since i purchased mine for $1600 in the mid-oughts, but you won't have the real facts without asking the folks at BB themselves.

when i purchased mine, i was told upon inquiry that the reeds were factory reeds--good, solid factory reeds, but factory reeds--and according to a recent post on this thread by a member of the BB brain trust, that is what they remain:

I played some early Ceilis and some recent ones and see almost no difference in sound or playability. It seems to me the newer ones have a slightly more finished look, but as hybrids go, they're all really good. The very early ones had a problem with the bellows material, but that was fixed a long time ago.

Thanks for the feedback, very interesting. Just thought I would share this (which many may have already seen) but seems like you're right - this review in the second to last paragraph contains a quote from Rich Morse

which suggests the design is unchanged, just some tweaks to fit and finish, at least between 1999 and 2002
