Kautilya
Demonstration of my new MIDItina 2.0 app controlling SampleTank, a virtual MIDI multi-timbral synthesizer app developed by IK Multimedia running in the background on the same iPhone. No external hardware needed! More information at: http://www.tradlessons.com/MIDItina2.html Accordion sounded good in the demo - but alas most of the voice message was technogreek to me and I was not sure where it takes me (except I am still waiting for android version or has it come and passed me by!) Hoping not too long for my Prime 201TF! I Would perhaps put tech stuff at the very end of all the videos and hit the punters with some tunes early on - they will be looking using it rather than why it does what it can do. BTW when explaing in the video that if you press x it will show the notes, no notes on buttons came up. Michael Eskin
I suspect it's the tech geeks that are going to eat this stuff up, not necessarily the musicians... :-) Android really isn't where the action is for synth and control apps. Considering how awful it's been to get my accordion apps ported over, I'm not even considering it for this sort of thing. Apple standardized how these sort of apps talk to each other, that alone creates a great environment for developers. Nothing like it on Android. Regarding the button names, they are there, but the video was washed out by the white around the button letters... Check the website for better screenshots... Simon H
Sorry to jump in on this but for anyone with a midi concertina IOS devices, iPad, and iPhones are a dream interface to use. Either using the camera connection kit and midi to USB, or a specific interface which plugs straight into the iPad such as the iRig Midi. There are so many apps that will take midi feed, a bunch of synthesisers, music training apps etc. I have an S-wave midi concertina and being able to play it on the iPad has breathed new life into playing it. If anyone wants more info on implementing midi concertinas on iPhone and iPad, I'd be happy to start up a thread to explain more fully. Michael Eskin
I'm focusing on control surfaces that run right on the iPad/iPhone itself, leveraging my work previously on the versions that played my own concertina samples. I couldn't sleep last night, so I ported the iPad version over from DSMIDIWiFi to CoreMIDI and sent it to Apple for review: http://www.tradlessons.com/MIDItinaXL2.html Demo Video: Here's all the control surfaces I've done: http://www.tradlessons.com/apps.html#coremidi Edited November 6, 2012 by eskin

Michael Eskin
Jesse Chappell, the developer of the ThumbJam synth for iPhone/iPad, is now providing my high-quality Concertina sample set as a free in-app download inside of ThumbJam. This will allow you to use ThumbJam as the synth module for my iPhone and iPad Anglo and English Concertina control surfaces for a wonderfully authentic concertina sound! badwellmac
Hi there, I have bought your MidiAngloXl and downloaded the free version of sampleTank. I cannot get any sound out of it, Do I need to buy the full version of SampleTank to make it work ? I just wanted to try it before I buy it ? Regards Karl
Michael Eskin
Hi Karl, No, the free version of SampleTank should be just fine, it just comes with a limited set of sounds. For a concertina sound ThumbJam is my synth app of choice since he's now including my concertina samples as a free in-app downloadable patch, but the app itself isn't free. There is one settings option change you need to make in SampleTank to allow it to be controlled from other apps, here's screenshots and a tutorial video showing exactly what you need to do: http://www.tradlessons.com/coremidisetup.html Essentially, you need to enable "Background Audio" in SampleTank. The same information is on the app support website: http://www.tradlessons.com/MIDIAngloXL.html Please let me know if that works for you and if I can answer any other questions about the setup. Cheers and thanks, Michael Edited November 26, 2012 by eskin
Michael Eskin
I've submitted version 2.2 of MIDITinaXL that adds a new vibrato control. Touch the diamond area at the bottom center of the screen to add vibrato effects. Touch and release in the upper half for a high vibrato, lower half for a low vibrato. The farther from the center vertically, the deeper the vibrato depth. Here's a screen shot of the new version, should be available as a free update around December 4: The feature adds a lot of expressive capabilities to the app and can be easily operated by either thumb or with the fingers while playing. Cheers and thanks, Michael Edited November 29, 2012 by eskin
Michael Eskin
For the box players, here's something new: I've put together a new patch for ThumbJam based on sampling my restored 1930s Hohner B/C box: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaqcQAmdmH0&feature=youtu.be The patch will be available within a couple of weeks as a free download in ThumbJam. jggunn
Hi, Michael. I am a little confused. I had downloaded the English app but is there a way to revise that to include the transposition, etc. or do I need to download another app? Thanks. Michael Eskin
Hi, Michael. I am a little confused. I had downloaded the English app but is there a way to revise that to include the transposition, etc. or do I need to download another app? Thanks. JGG Which app did you download? The acoustic Englitina or EnglitinaXL apps or the MIDITina/MIDITina XL apps? The acoustic apps don't transpose, the just play like a real instrument. The MIDI apps are for controlling other devices or synth apps and do transpose. . Just let know which you got and I'll give you a code for a free copy of the other.
