This tune has a double repeat mark on the B music which abc cannot reproduce in print. This should be played 1A.4B

The sort of fix you need to make that ABC portable - this works in BarFly, and should work in anything, given that I've removed those crazy exclamation marks. You will need a wide window to see the source properly:

The time signature was wrong (4/4, should have been 6/8) and so was the key signature (Bb, should have been GMin).

I removed the diminuendos at the end of each line as I couldn't imagine what they meant - you've already got one in the same bar.

Was "diminuendo(" (with the open-paren) supposed to mean something specific?

To illustrate the point here is a PDF generated from my ABC transcription courtesy of O'Reagan's Montreal Tune Book.

I have an old music book called "Chappell's One Hundred Scotch Melodies Arranged for the Concertina" that has seen better days and it's been patched back together with sellotape (^_^) which makes it too stiff to lay properly flat in the scanner. I've decided to transcribe this book into abc in order to recreate it as a PDF when the project is completed. I'm going to share the tunes here as I go along and hope some of you enjoy playing the tunes. The abc files will be written in abc plus to include dynamic marks which the Tune-O-Tron doesn't like at all and it will not play the tune back properly in the midi player. O'Reagan's ABC Editor works perfectly as do ABC Explorer and Easy ABC so if you want to listen to the midi playback use one of those.

Just watch it you. I have the conductor's score for Thomas Tallis' Spem in Alium and I know how to transcribe it! :P

Wonder of wonders - just catching up on Private Eye 24Aug - 6 Sept 2012,No 1321, p 28 column 1 Music and Musicians and it is all about the ABC of xeS - it seems Spem in Alium by the Tallis Scholars is leaping off the shelves since their recording was identified in Fifty Shades of Grey "as perfect background music for a spot of.....

Well I have not read the book myself but you may find it interesting to check out the review to see more of the dark side tho I don't thinl Tallis had that in mind.

PE said EMI was also rushing out a 'sonic compilation' of music from the book which includes Spem, but only 12 minutes of it which apparently will require looping for it to match the scenes in the book.....

Let's not hijack Peter's thread, but Spem in Alium is a wonderful work. There are lots of good versions on youtube. But, if you really want to hear it find a performance and sit in the middle of those 8 choirs. It is unbelievable.

Common Peter, transcribe it to ABC so I don't have to start from scratch to make the 8 brass quintet version! :)

I don't mind a bit of thread drift here and there, it relieves the monotony! I won't be transcribing Spem in Alium in the foreseeable though Chuck . . .
