I'd change

but you might want to drop the dot off the last note of the first line instead. I'm not that familiar with the tune so am not sure.

Seriously, chicken and egg indeed. The Blue Eyed Stranger version is clearly adapted to the up tempo of dancing, whereas the Mill version is intended as a march or perhaps an air. Certainly in the same tune family though, maybe even closer than kissin' cousins...
