Seriously, the embedded javascript midi thing on abcnotation.org and similar sites is very limited and can only play a single voice, in fact it can only play a single note at any one time. There doesn't seem to be much point writing out an arrangement only to have the midi player strip it bare!

Apparently not. The B music has eight bars and I seem to have dropped one out so I've edited the abc and grafted in something that seems to fit.

 

Is it really a song? I only know it as a tune and I've never seen any lyrics!

The chorus fits with my recollection of the words, though I don't remember hearing the verses often enough for them to have stuck in my mind.

As a great fan of the William Shields theme and variations arrangement of this tune, I'm less than impressed with Carlo Minasi's efforts here. The bounder should be ruddy well horse-whipped I would say!

All of these settings seem to lean heavily on the song versions. Which, in my opinion, sometimes makes them all a bit mundane. I'd see them as useful as "fill" instrumental verses in songs, but less useful standing on their own. Still, they are useful for other reasons, and they really do seem to fit the concertina.

Here's the next one. I'm painfully aware that there are two semiquavers that shouldn't be there in the second line but that's the way it's written honestly! I'm in favour of dropping both of them because they are meaningless . . .

I wouldn't drop them, but I would reduce the dotted note before them by the appropriate amount. LIke so (E/F) A/

 

Perhaps with a footnote.
