Jody Kruskal at Whitstable, 9 October

Recommended Posts

We're promoting a talk and concert by the brilliant American concertinist, singer and teacher Jody Kruskal, who is an Old Time and Contra music specialist. The event titled 'American Old-Time styles and the Concertina' takes place at Whitstable Labour Club on the 9th October from 8pm. See the ad attached for info - or go to http://frittendenfestival.com . This event is supported by the International Concertina Association.

Also, for those who enjoy old fashioned and trad music often involving concertinas, the Frittenden sessions start again at 8pm on the last Sunday in September (the 30th) and we'll be re-starting the trad music classes at the Gun & Spitroast, Horsmonden, on Wednesday the 12th September. Please note there will be a special Harvest Hop barndance with the class band and friends - and no doubt a few surprise entertainments at the Bell Jorrocks on the 24th November.

Cheers, Gavin

Just a little reminder if I may - Jody will appear at Whitstable Labour Club on Tuesday evening. He's just as good a player as they say, and a great performer and speaker, so this is not one to miss. It's also supported by the ICA.

Here's a quotation from someone in the USA:

'You can't do that on the concertina! Well, maybe you or I can't, but tonight's opener Jody Kruskal can. Jody is known in the contra-dance world as a wizard of the Anglo concertina as part of numerous bands including Grand Picnic and Squeezology. But as a solo performer, he applies the little squeeze box to the most unlikely of songs, including blues, ragtime, jazz, and novelty numbers to marvelous effect.'

I hope to see some of you there. Details are in the previous post and at http://www.singdanceandplay.net

Jody was at Cambridge Folk Club tonight - 12th October. Really good set; lots of fun and audience participation plus some very good harmonic style playing. If you get the chance, then do go to hear him. He is at Herga Folk club in Pinner on 15th, Baldock folk club on 17th, The Tump, Coventry on 18th and Seaford Folk club on 19th October.

Thanks Jody; great start to the evening!

David
