SteveS Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 (edited) I have today been offered a whole load of brass reeds from a scrapped harmonium (reed organ). Set me thinking, could harmonium reeds form a viable basis for a bass (or even contra-bass or bass/baritone) concertina? Given the size of the reeds, and availability, then such a 'tina will probably be single action. Anyone ever tried using harmonium reeds for concertinas? Will it even work with harmonium reeds? Larry Stout Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I remember looking at pictures of how the reeds were put in some historic basses. As I recall the reeds in an old Wheatstone were originally for a pump organ. I picked up a set of organ reeds, but I never got around to making the bass concertina.
Dirge Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I have an idea that someone once said that Colin Dipper had made some basses for the WCCP using harmonium reeds fastened to the flat of the reed pan. Ask someone from that neck of the woods.
