Deangreen Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I picked up this accordion at an estate sale. I looks pretty old. I could not find any makers marks on it. Is anyone familiar with this. I am very curious about the history, e.g. who made it and when was it made. Any info on this really neat accordion would be highly appreciated.
Theo Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 It is a melodeon almost certainly made in Saxony in the town of Klingenthal in the late 19th or early 20th century. These were relatively cheap mass produced instruments and most do not justify much repair effort, though occasionally you may find one with steel reeds that can make a decent player.
Deangreen Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Many thanks for your response. It looks like the one in this old ad, although the dimensions are not exact.

So that's why I don't see these anywhere .....they were all used to prune grape vines. But then again I am 120 years old an can't see much anyway. I guess this is quite a rare instrument.....as rare as helpful comments in this forum.
