varney Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I'm trying to find a picture essay which Bob Tedrow did on how to make screw buttons for attaching straps. It was his method of making these from scratch. Have searched his site but can't find it, so now I'm wondering if it was a link from here on cnet which took me to it ( must have been a year ago or more). Have searched on cnet as well but still can't find it......... Can anyone help? Happy Christmas to all! Michael

Michael Hi Michael Are you thinking of his Stagi repair essay? http://hmi.homewood.net/adjuster/'>http://hmi.homewood.net/adjuster/ I can't think of making screws from scratch, although there are two videos of his spring making and tool. http://hmi.homewood.net/ Thanks Leo
varney Posted December 25, 2011 Author Posted December 25, 2011 Hi Leo, No, neither of those...I've been through all the stuff on Bob' site and am now wondering did I see it somewhere else??! It was a set of pictures which showed the process of taking a piece of commercially available brass bolt ( or just bolt stock ), a brass disc which had a hole drilled through the centre, then the threaded bolt shaft was slipped through the hole and soldered into place. I believe the join was ground flat on a wheel and then polished. Ring any bells with anyone (no xmas pun intended!)? Geoff Wooff Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 (edited) Varney, as you have described the process quite well, I'm wondering if you wish to make some strap screws yourself or you wish to collect the 'article' that you are searching for ? If you are looking for tips or suggestions for making these screws then.....? Of course, these screws can also be purchased from David Leese at www.concertina-spares.com Best regards on Christmas day, Geoff. Edited December 25, 2011 by Geoff Wooff
Theo Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Yes you have most of the process. I'd add two points: 1 the joint should be silver(hard) soldered sift solder is not strong enough. 2 a refinement to the joint is to turn a slight shoulder on the end of the screwed rod to fit into a matched hole in the disc. 3 an alternative way of making the joint is to thread it, and hard solder. Ps think the Tedrow page you are looking for is showing how to fit new heads to endblots
Ken_Coles Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 You're not alone - I recall that photo essay too. But can't tell you where, or if it was Bob T. Good luck! Ken
Theo Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 There is a link on Bob T's home page called "Repairs to end screws and bolts" is that the one?
