William Posted July 27, 2004 Posted July 27, 2004 I have an old Wunderlich chemnitzer concertina I'm restoring. I need five replacement keys or buttons. The originals are ivory....which I doubt I'll ever find. But a reasonable facsimilie would be great. I realize that Concertina.net is primarily an anglo/english concertina site--but I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

And if you do find real ivory, it may be illegal to purchase or use it.. But there has long been a reasonable facsimile, a plastic that I think often goes by the name "ivoroid". It's used regularly by stringed instrument makers for inlay, "nuts", etc., and I used to know a scrimshander who used it for even his largest pieces. I suggest you check out supply centers for both musical instrument materials and hobbies/crafts.
LarsWilladsen Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 Hi William Just thought it might be useful for you to contact Harry Geuns in the Netherlands. He's restoring and building bandoneons and concertinas. He might give you a clou to where to find the buttons you miss - or might even be able to send/sell you some himself. You'll find him on the internet address http://www.bandoneon-maker.com/harrygeuns.htm Best regards Lars Willadsen
