michael sam wild
What is the best way to slowdown a track and also work out which notes comprise any chords played. I do OK by ear but it would help in analysis to know about useful software etc.

Stephen Mills
What is the best way to slowdown a track and also work out which notes comprise any chords played. I do OK by ear but it would help in analysis to know about useful software etc. I once demo'd the software Transcribe! as a free trial for a period. The attached image from shows how it can display all the tones present at a given moment, including overtones, according to their pitch and loudness. I didn't find this all that easy to use, I have to say, but I may not have tried hard enough. Ideally, only a single instrument is playing, although maybe you could get by with a guitar and concertina mix. A youtube video of a session in a bar would be hopeless. You can locate the Transcribe! software easily online. I already had the Amazing Slowdowner and did not buy Transcribe! Had I not, I'm sure I would have been at least as happy with Transcribe! Our fellow member Michael Eskin also has a Transcribe! demo on youtube, although with a different aim.
Wolf Molkentin
I found it useful Thanx for your recommendation, at which I downloaded and installed "Speedshifter" - sadly it refuses to work correctly (instead of just doubling the pitch and so forth)... michael sam wild
Afriend uses VLC media player which has a slowdowner that maintains pitch and is free. Transcribe is pretty good I reckon.
