Randy Stein
I can only speak on what both Boris and Sergei taught me and assume all their students were taught the same. While the thumbs were in snugly and comfortable the main point that was always stressed elbows in and instrument held up not settled on the knee. This allowed for a lot of movement and dexterity in playing. rss
kevin toner
I would concur with Randy. After reading this I gave it a shot and found that was able to swing it around the room for nice tonal effects. It also felt comfortable - you can almost rotate all the way to upside-down to find the best/different support strategy for particular chords/playing. However, I have to sit rather than stand to play the current complex score that I'm trying to accomplish/learn. I definitely look forward to standing more depending on the demand of the tune. Again, it's incredibly liberating indeed esp. for ad-lib playing-around. Thanks, Randy - it feels right to me!
