Stephen Chambers Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Hi, I have a LACHENAL serial no 4752 which has 21 buttons on one side and 25 on the other side plus the air button, it has 9 folds in the bellows and is approxamately 19 inches long. I believe it was made for the stage in VAUDERVILLE as there are a lot of special effects in it for example bird sounds, whistles, trains etc. This i presume is the reason for it being so long it also plays as a concertina, the special effects appear to be in the outside rows.So i was wondering if anyone out there could tell me the age of it and the value, many thanks,Regards Ken. Hi Ken, 'Tis far from the world of Shand Morinos that you've ventured with this one... What a bizarre object! Concertinas have sometimes been made with cock-crow and bird-whistle novelty buttons on them, and melodeons too (in fact I have one of them that also has a cuckoo effect), but they don't take up much room - so what on earth is in there to make the frames of your one so extended?
OLDNICKILBY Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 I would have thought that this was right up Neil Wayne's street as he ia always on the lookout for the wierd and wonderful. Could the barrel like chests act as an air receiver, as on a compressor, perhaps to give extra volume when it is called for
