Dan Stener Posted July 5, 2004 Posted July 5, 2004 Hello All, I'm wondering if a 35-button English Aeola and/or Edeophone was made. I am hoping for a smaller profile than my 56 button to take with me when traveling. The notes needed are "G below middle C" to "C two octaves above middle C". Thanks for any assistance, referrals, or information. Be Well, Dan

My contrabass English has 35-buttons, and exactly the range you want, except two octaves lower. And it's not an Æola or Edeophone, but a 6-sided Lachenal. While what you seek quite possibly does exist, it would certainly have been a special-order instrument. I've never seen one. (I do know of a lovely 28-button English, but it's neither Æola nor Edeophone, and the lowest note of its 2-octave range is middle C.) I think your chance of finding one for sale is pretty slim. But are you using it in performance? If not (maybe even if so) I recommend you check out the the Albion from The Button Box. The sound isn't quite the same, though your opinion of it would be a matter of personal taste. It's light, fast, and quite playable. It's the size of a standard treble, which may not be as small as you're hoping for, but I suspect is still smaller than your 56-button. Its 37-button range is just a hair more than what you're asking for.

They just took off most of that top octave.
