Rod Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 A new minor tune Is there enough variation or is it back to the drawing board? Al You would not have posted it Al unless you enjoyed creating and playing it and perhaps that is all that relly matters.
Kautilya Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 A new minor tune Is there enough variation or is it back to the drawing board? Al You would not have posted it Al unless you enjoyed creating and playing it and perhaps that is all that relly matters. Something delightful about it in terms of an Enery the VIIIth mediaeval dance toon ... it is 90 per cent danceable already so maybe just think out a rework of a few of the tricky note/steps and how it will go with flute and lyre accompaniment for ladies with their beaux in their finery on the lawns at Hampton court at the end of this month or at Greenwich during the Queen's Thames Flotilla. Do you remember one of the scenes with the royal barge on the river in Man for All Seasons? (Sony has blocked the full barge scene)but... they have left the trailer on - listen from about 1'25", tho it is a bit strident compared with your light, stepping bounce on the box. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RZKd1be05Q
Gary Chapin Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Nice. Not technically a drone, but very droney ... which I love. Also, love love love "A Man for All Seasons" which isn't an association I would 've made if not for Kautilya, but there you go.
Leo Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I wish you guys hadn't of mentioned that. Now I can't get the picture of a medieval march out of my mind. But, it does sound similar and regal. Thanks Leo
Alan Day Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Interesting comments here. Minor tunes can get very worm like and difficult to get off. The tune is growing on me,I was a bit apprehensive about posting it. A regal march sounds good to me Thanks all. Al

The tune is growing on me,I was a bit apprehensive about posting it. A regal march sounds good to me Thanks all. Al I should have asked Leo as he would be sure to have found it... as he did! But, I don't want you tina-stepping down The Mall or towards the Brandenberg Gate, so not a regal march as such, rather a regal dressed-to-kill Enery May ball(you still have 11 days to polish it!) at court, with paired dancers 'tripping' and weaving down the lines while he eyes up and dances with the talent. The highly charged atmosphere your tune conjures up has no timeline and is also reflected (xes has not changed in the intervening 400 years....)in von Trapp's dancing the Laendler* with Maria.... and the Baroness realises she has lost her man....your 400 yr old version is redolent of the same delicious,Spring recipe. Chris Drinkwater Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 A new minor tune Is there enough variation or is it back to the drawing board? Al It seems to have a slightly Chinese sound about it; you know, the type of incidental music they put in films to convey something oriental in the scene. Chris
