Colin and Rosalie will be in Toronto on May 14th this year and there will be a chance to meet them and get to talk to them about concertina manufacture, repair and other items of interest. There will also be an evening event, probably a music session. More details to follow as the plans develop but anyone interested please let me know by PM so that we can get an idea of numbers for the day.

I gather they will be in Canada because their talented fiddle and concertina playing son, John, is getting married to a delightful Canadian woman from Quebec. Advance congratulations to the happy couple! And the possibility of a third generation concertina maker/player. :)

Awesome news! I'm not sure if I can make it to Toronto during that time, as I'll be just back from a recent journey to Vietnam, and with the Chris Langan festival in Toronto the following week... hopefully they'll visit Montreal and/or Quebec and I can catch them there. There's a non functioning reed on my concertina, a very high note I never use, maybe I'll try to keep Mr. Dipper busy B)

Is there anybody out of the US likely to make it to Toronto for this?

I actually went and looked at the airfare costs, but they are currently prohibitive for me. And given the state of the Middle East, I don't expect airfare costs to go down between now and then.

The date is fast approaching now. The current plan is to have a "meet and greet" on the Saturday afternoon (just after lunch) where Colin and Rosalie can discuss any questions etc. maybe a good look at Colin's Franglo (I haven't asked if he's bringing it but I suspect he will!). In the eveniong there will be an open session. Mainly driven by the English session group but there will also be Irish players there. This part will be open to all instruments (except, perhaps, bodhrans......).

If anyone is interested in coming form away please let me know and I'll look into accommodation options.

I don't know whether I will be available to travel to Toronto on that date, but it seems that the excitement is such that no details have been posted other than the date. Venue? Event? Location? Open or closed?

Hi all,

Just a reminder that Colin and Rosalie Dipper will be in town on the weekend of May 14. For the concertina folk there will be a "meet and greet" starting at 1:00 p.m. on the Saturday. In the evening, starting at 8:00 p.m. we'll be hosting a session for all instruments. This will be English based but all and any tunes will be welcome.

In the afternoon Colin and Rosalie will be talking about their instruments and concertina making.repairing and discussing any questions that come up. Please contact me by p.m. if you would like more details.

Cheers

I was fortunate enought to meet Colin and Rosalie at Kilve ... I wish I could make it to Toronto. They are lovely people and talking concertina with them is something that you shouldn't miss!

Hi Frank, I missed your post before. I didn't post venue because I was trying to get the Tranzac but there is a clash of events. PM me for the address and phone number. Other details are in the latest reminder above. All concertina players welcome in the afternoon, all instruments in the evening.

I would absolutely agree that anyone nearby should not miss the opportunity to meet Colin and Rosalie, Not only consummate artisans (anyone who has seen/owns a "Dipper" concertina will know that!). But, really nice people too, and very accomodating. There have been many a time when I've had a problem with my tina....One phone call, drive down to Warminster, Colin would stop whatever he was working on to fix the problem...Rosalie would serve lunch! and the hours would fly by! Also I'm slightly biased by the fact that I played in a band with John when he live here in the UK!

My one worry about their trip is....Will they be considering taking the Serpent with them? Might cause a few raised eyebrows in customs!

But, If anyone can go, don't miss this opportunity to meet two of the finest concertina makers from England...(Sorry Mr Dickinson.....Who's just as good, but like me, didn't get an invite to the wedding!)

Well, the wedding being about three hours drive from my place, it wouldn't be too hard to crash it B)
