BBC ALBA to go on Freeview!

 

Hey this is great news, as there's loads of great music programmes on Alba.

 

Especially as there's certainly no way I was ever going to be throwing any money at Rupert Murdoch for Sky!

Let's face it, he's rich enough & anyway, I've got enough channels full of $5!3@ as it is!

 

Fingers crossed that we can all access it in Norn Iron, England & Wales, too!

You can get it on Freesat. I've got a friend here in Wiltshire who has it & raves about the music programmes. Also some programmes on BBC iPlayer - e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00wydbw/Horo_Gheallaidh_Series_4_Episode_10/

 

I was particularly interested in the fiddle-like instrument (nyckelharpa) being played by the Swedish group Vasen at around 4:40 onwards

I'm not the friend in Wiltshire referred to (though I like to think I am a friend in Wiltshire) but yes, you can get Alba on Freesat and there are some great programmes to be had. Missed the nyckelharpa though. Lovely instrument, having much in common in terms of eccentricity and musicality with the concertina.

Definitely a friend but unless you've changed a lot recently Chris I believe you are of the wrong gender to qualify as the person I'm talking about
