Ptarmigan Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 I really enjoyed The Highland Sessions tonight on BBC 4. The line up included Niall Vallely, who plays a cracking set of tunes with fellow box players Donald Shaw & Dermot Byrne. Great to hear the Button Box, Piano Box & Concertina blending so well. If you are lucky, you can catch it here, on the BBC iPlayer. Cheers Dick

I wonder if RTE is available in your area: Edel Fox & Hugh Healy There wer a lot of strings on that fiddle! Aye & it's a hard enough job tuning 4 strings sometimes, especially after a few pints! Cheers Dick

My impression is that the instruments blending so well is due to these musicians listening to each other so well.

Yes indeed Leonard, the YouTube misses out the first tune, but it shows most of the set. Yes, they're clearly master at listening and being able to blend their music & instruments with those around them. Sadly, too often in sessions, you get the impression that some players are just constantly trying to see how LOUD they can play! Cheers Dick
