shelly0312
I'm disappointed that no one has volunteered any report about the Northeast Squeese-In. I got wind of it too late for my scheduling; but would like to be conscious of the time and maybe be able to make the time for it next year? I don't think it was listed in the events area of the forums either? I'm hoping there was enough interest that there will be a next year?? Isn't one of the "Box Stores" involved? I'd love the opportunity to actually see other free-reed instruments besides my only own one. Its lonely in Wisconsin. Michelle
Ken_Coles
Michelle, After the Death of Rich Morse a year and half ago, the Button Box asked for volunteers to take over all the work Rich used to do for this event. Volunteers did come forth, and nearly all of them happen to be accordion rather than concertinists; the exceptions don't happen to be active members of this forum. They have a yahoo group called Squeeze-In News. I did have the contact info on the Summer schools list posted on the static side of concertina.net. I couldn't go; I only heard in April that the date was moved to October, and I had a prior work commitment then. Checking the link to their site I find the dates for 2011 (Sept. 16-18) and a NEW LOCATION! That should provoke some discussion here. That being said, I'd be interested in a report on the recent event myself. Did anyone go? Ken
bellowbelle
It's not that I've lost interest in going -- enjoyed what I did go to, in years past. But, I'm unable to be away from my home for days at a time, so that settles that.
David Barnert
Volunteers did come forth, and nearly all of them happen to be accordion rather than concertinists; the exceptions don't happen to be active members of this forum. Stuart Dean and Jen Stafford are two prominent members of the group who play concertina, but you're right, they're not on this forum. Checking the link to their site I find the dates for 2011 (Sept. 16-18) and a NEW LOCATION! That should provoke some discussion here. Wow, that's the first I'd heard of the new location, and I'm on their mailing list. I just read their web site, and I agree that while I'd be sorry to leave Bucksteep, this new place looks promising. That being said, I'd be interested in a report on the recent event myself. Did anyone go? I was there. I wish I could say more, but it's all a blur, dominated by an unfortunate incident late Saturday night (or should I say early Sunday morning?). I had already gone to bed when a camper took a bad fall down the steps leading from the dining room to the parking lot and smashed her face up pretty bad. Somebody came to wake me up knowing I was a doctor. I came by and saw that although she was alert and joking (and the one witness told me that she didn't lose consciousness when she fell), she had short term memory loss: not only did she not remember the accident, but she kept asking the same questions over and over. And her face was all purple and swollen. People kept asking me "should we call an ambulance," and I said yes. They came about a half an hour later and took her to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. They released her a few hours later and she was back at camp by sunrise. Anyway, that and a lot of rain are about all I remember of the weekend, but I think I had a good time.

Are you sure it wasn't something contagious, and not just the fall?

Jody Kruskal
Check this out: http://www.squeeze-in.org/TalentShowCDs/2010CD.html I've attended the Squeeze-in most years but this time around I had gig conflicts so too bad for me. Thanks Kurt for posting the link. At least I had a chance to hear some of the concert.
lildogturpy
I had planned to go to the 2010 NESI but couldn't at the last minute, I've had withdrawal symptoms ever since. I took a look at the new place online and it looks very promising. I have September next year pencilled in already.
