Hello All,

I just popped onto the forums to find out about a 30 button C. Jeffries concertina that my father-in-law has. It belonged to his grandfather and looks like it has been well used. I was wondering what you might be able to tell me about this particular concertina and if possible what it might cost to restore something like this. Thanks in advance for your help with this. I have attached a few photos, but if there is something I should take a picture of to make it easier to figure out, please let me know.

Cheers,

Kyle.

I see in your profile you are in Vancouver, BC. If you can get down to Washington State, Wim Wakker is an expert you could consult about restoration (very likely to be worth it).

Lots of us will grin and hope you try playing it, and catch our lifelong disease! Have fun,

Ken

You can use this link to get to Polly Wilson's profile, where you can send her an email. (She's a Concertina.net member, but I don't know how often she checks in here.) She lives in Vancouver and should be able to help you with a preliminary evaluation.

She doesn't do repairs and won't be able to give you a price estimate, but she knows how to open it up and check its condition, tuning, etc. (Though she plays English, not anglo, she does understand the different systems.) With that information you can give us more detail here or contact Wim Wakker (a.k.a. Concertina Connection) by email for more advice before trucking al the way down to Spokane.

But your few pictures lead me to suspect that it's likely well worth a full restoration. Best of luck.

Potentially (only potentially until examined by an expert) a fine and valuable instrument. So don't let anyone sweet talk it out of your hands until you've had it looked at by said expert. Wim would be a good choice.

Cheers,

Chris
