P.con
Has anyone got the sheet music for this reel? It's in a major and starts off kinda like the concertina reel! I'm not sure if it's known by any other name either? It's really popular in sessions in my area and I'd love to be able to join in! Thanks:)

Leo
Hi Leo! Unfortunatley no, thanks anyway for the reply! Hi P.con There is a search engine that is useful for finding tunes, if you can type in a few notes. I've found it about 50% accurate for me, but I'm not that good at guessing the notes: http://www.folktunefinder.com/ Is is possible Joe's name is Sean Seán Mháire Mhicilín http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/4457 Thanks Leo Edited October 14, 2010 by Leo
Lawrence Reeves
If you could attach a small audio sample of the tune, I bet someone here has a known alternate name for your tune.
P.con
Thanks Leo, unfortunatley that wasn't it again! I will try attach an audio file. I Can play a small hit of it on my fiddle! Thanks again
Peter Laban
Joe Maire Micilin is the name Coimhin O Rgallaigh used for the tune on his CD. It's more wellknown as (nearly there Leo) The Old Silver Spear and more yet as The New(ly) Mown Meadow[/i. You will find it in several different keys, the old concertina players would have played it in the lower key
P.con
Yes I know the silver spear well it's one of the first tunes I learned, however the one I know as joe mhaire mhicilin is in a major, it sounds similar to the silver spear, although a bit different, as the second half goes into a minor key
Peter Laban
I know, that's why it's called the OLD Silver Spear, as opposed to the regular one. Try this one then: T:Old Silver Spear, The M:C| R:reel K:Ddor AD~D2 D2EG|AcBG AGEG|AD~D2 EDEG|G2AG EDEG| AD~D2 D2EG|AcBG AGEG|c2cA B2BA|1 GBAG EDEG:|2 GBAG EGBc|| d2Bd edBd|d2BG AGEG|d2Bd edBA|GBAG EGD2| d2Bd edBd|d2BG AGEG|c2cA B2BA|1 GBAG EGBc:|2 GBAG EDEG|| or transpose it up to eAAG A... like Noel Hill and McMahon do it
P.con
That's not it unfortunatley! It must be a local joe mhaire mhicilin ! Which is wierd since I live near the o rahallaigh's! Anyway thanks for all the help, that old silver spear is lovely I might learn that too:)
