Mike and I went along to the Tonbridge Folk Club and who should introduce himself to me but Frogspawn our member playing duet.

There were present two Duets, One English and me on Anglo.

We had a lovely drive there through some lovely parts of Kent , going past Hever Castle and Chiddingstone Castle

A nice evening.

It was good if unexpected to see Alan and Mike at Tonbridge (http://www.tonbridgefolkclub.org). Many years ago I often used to go and listen to the sessions at the George in Southwark where Alan is a regular.

We have three regulars who play concertina: Malcolm Ward (McCann), Angela Baker (English), and now myself (Crane) which I have just started to use for song accompaniment in public as mentioned in another thread. Angie most often plays as a duet with her husband, Colin, on guitar. Malcolm is also a great shanty singer.

Obviously we would be very pleased to see any other C.net contributors.

The Angela Baker, mentioned above, better known as Angela Fairhead, who plays the EC, is a very good friend of mine and is the Angela in the tune I recently posted here, Angela's Waltz, which I composed as a surprise birthday present for her. What a coincidence!

She is a lovely ,friendly lady, I had a nice chat with her.

A smile that lights up the room.

She played an interesting piece by Bach.

I grew up in Tonbridge, during the dark days of the seventies and eighties. One of my fondest memories is of watching morris dancers on the lawn in front of the castle one warm summer afternoon. I wish the folk club had existed then. Maybe I wouldn't have felt so isolated (in other words, ODD!)It was tough growing up with an older brother who blasted Status Quo and Queen out of his bedroom night, noon and morning.

Geoff Doel founded the club in 1979 but I lived in Tonbridge for some time before discovering it. Such was life before Google.
