In Portugal, it would appear that they have not, yet, discovered the word "melodeon" for melodeon. Probably directs more traffic to c.net, so not all bad.

In Portugal, every Buton Box with a diatonic scale is called "Concertina". And this happen not only in Portugal but also in other countries. I have seen videos on Youtube of accordion teachers who used the word concertina in reference to the same kind instrument that we use in Portugal.

Aboute the numer of google searches, it does not surprise me because there isn't another country in the world with more "concertina" players than Portugal.

This instrument, specialy in the Northwest of the country is the main folk instrument and every village have several players.

During the biggest festivals (religious festivities with a parallel profane side were people dance, sing and play the "M word") it is frequent to find hundreds of them.

A big part of the Portuguese players also live outside of Portugal once that the millions of Portuguese immigrants all over the world used the Folk and this kind of "concertina" has a way to remember their villages, traditions and way of life.

For the lovers of this kind of instrument, to see one of these musical spontaneous manifestations, is something that you will never forget.
