SO; I always like Brian Peters' playing, and particularly Dallas Rag, so went off to watch them. And in the youtube intro bit it talks about the 'Coley Jones classic arrangement for anglo concertina'

Who was Coley Jones, and was it really an arrangement or just 'Find the guitar music and move a few notes.'

Thanks Leo,a great selection as ever. Great to see that clutch of Brian Peters videoas. Looks like a good event at Kirkby Fleetham, pity we missed it.

They snuck another one in when I wasn't looking. I hate it when that happens.

Under "More From: SIMMO7TS" there are 3259 videos. I didn't have time to look for more. I'm sure I missed some.

Thanks

Pete Simmons , pretty prolific videoer.

By the way do you have to ask the artist's or the subject's permission to film and present material in public , or is it 'just' a courtesy.

I often wonder how many people have been put in awkward positions by public shows of them without their knowledgewink.gif

Who was Coley Jones

He must be the guy four from the left here: dallas+string+band.png

Thanks , that's a great link and adds something to the quest for ' The Anglo, the lost years.'

The project seems to be a track by track analysis of Harry Smith's vast Anthology of American Folk Music. treasure trovetongue.gif It reminds me of those great pieces Jody Kruskal puts up for us on the story of a song and a singer or atune and the source musician.

Just for the record, Coley Jones played mandolin with the Dallas String Band, not concertina -- but it's a funny coincidence there's a concertina pictured there. The Dallas String Band recorded "Dallas Rag" in the late 1920s. I presume they wrote it, but maybe the person who posted the video thinks it's just their version of an even older tune. And also for the record, Brian Peters' "Dallas Rag" is one of my favorite concertina pieces, and an inspiration.
