Lachenal English 48 key lost on London Underground

Recommended Posts

Nancy Wallace has reported on the Stolen Instrument Gallery on Facebook the following information:

"Hi, I lost my Lachenal 48 key English concertina on the London central line last wednesday Feb 10th. Unfortunately I can't find a record of the serial number but hopefully these two photos here show it quite clearly. It has a beautiful distinctive pattern on the bellows, black wood with silver buttons and silver inlays on the ends. If you think you've seen it please drop me a line!

Thanks "

She has posted two photographs on the Facebook gallery at

The resolution of the photos on Facebook doesn't actually show the serial number as she hopes though! :(

And I will add this one to the pinned lost/stolen thread, pending additional details I'm told may turn up.

Still waiting for more info from Nancy.

Checking E Bay on a daily basis. You never know!

Nancy has posted info on one of the pics to the effect that the instrument was in "one of those bog standard new carry cases - black vinyl with red trim", which of course may very well have parted company from it by now

For those of us who do not have a Facebook account, would there be any chance of posting the photos on this forum? Thanks.

What I'm seeing at this end when I hit those links is the picture, displayed as if to someone who is not logged into Facebook. I was under the impression that you should be able to see those pictures. Can anyone confirm this or not, who does not have a Facebook account (other than Steve, obviously!)

If it's not possible to access then, then I think we'll have to get Ralphie to have a word with Nancy to obtain proper pics.

Thanks, Irene!

I think I've found a fix.

I normally access this forum from Safari (version 4.0.4) running on Mac OS 10.4.11 which does not allow me to see the photos on Facebook via your original links.

However, when using Firefox 3.6 I can indeed see the Facebook photos, so my problem would appear to be a browser-dependent thing.

I may be wrong here but I haven't seen many standard layout 48 Englishes with 6-fold bellows. They normally only have 4-fold or is my memory poor on this one? If that is the case it would be a useful identification point. I hope and presume Nancy is regularly in contact with LT Lost Property. There are a few rogues out there but the vast majority of people would see a very individual unusual item and someone's prized possession and hand it in.

Also this is a good learning point for all other players. Don't just take photos, record the serial number and any other distinguishing points.

Well said Steve.

I've got hundreds of photos of my beasts from every angle!

After all. One digital camera, and an hours worth of happy snapping, could make all the difference with Mr Plod, when you see your prized (nicked!) possession pop up on E Bay!
