Chris Timson Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Hi all, This morning Anne had a phone call (asking for me by name) from an outfit called Tech-on Support, claiming they wanted to help with the viruses infecting our computers. Anne was properly suspicious and asked for their phone number, whereupon they hung up. I've done a little Googling and this is a well-established scam. Sometime the caller represents themselves as from Tech-on, sometimes from Microsoft or some other company. In all cases their aim is to persuade you to allow them to connect remotely to your computer (after having taken your bank account details to "pay" for the service!). They then install various types of malware, keyloggers and such under the pretense of clearing all the viruses off your machine. The moral is: be suspicious of unsolicited calls and *never* let strangers near your machine. Chris Edited January 26, 2010 by Chris Timson
