lerikske Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Hello Before all, excuse my poor english, I'm french speaker ( from Belgium ). I'm not a concertina player but I love listen music. At the National Media Library of my country I have listen a really good CD ( at my point of view ) but it seems very difficult to find it to buy in a CD store. Impossible to find it around here, one can say that folk music, especially when it is specific is not really easy to find in my area. I have tried to find it on internet but : nothing except few lines about it on sites ( one of them is this one ). It's a pity that a so good album is not more " marketised" (?). Then, I suppose it is a private production or something like that. So, I come here to ask some good adresses in UK where possible to order it ( as new CD, not second-hand ) or, is somebody knows is there a personnal site of this Artist ( I didn't fint it ): Cathy Custy and the album I try, like a crazy, to find is : "An Ceoltóir Fanach" This album made me discover the incredible subtilities of this not well know (by me) instrument which is the concertina. I see here and on Youtube that in a fact, this instrument is very popular in UK. Good, that is meaning that I have a lot of good musical surprises to discover Have a nice weekend.
Boney Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 I did a quick search, and found this album, which lists Cathy Custy on concertina as a performer. Perhaps you could give it a try: http://celticgrooves.homestead.com/CG_Custy_Tola.html Maybe contacting Tóla Custy on his MySpace page would help you find the album you're looking for. http://www.myspace.com/tolacusty
Takayuki YAGI Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Cathy Custy A set of jigs here http://www.custysmusic.com/media/session-vids/flash/cathy_custy_hi_res.mpg.SWF
lerikske Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Thank you very much to both for the fast answers Maybe contacting Tóla Custy on his MySpace page would help you find the album you're looking for. http://www.myspace.com/tolacusty Well, if I don't find some other adresses of UK specialist folk music CD shops, it will a good idea to try to reach the Artist Cathy Custy by her parents. I suppose that "Custy" is a nickname. A set of jigs here http://www.custysmusic.com/media/session-vids/flash/cathy_custy_hi_res.mpg.SWF Nice video of Artists in work Have a nice evening .
michael sam wild Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Custy's famous music shop in Ennis, County Clare. John O'Connor is really nice and helpful! The web site works if you stick at it!
Theo Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 You could try Roots2music in Newcastle . If you do not see the CD on the website its is worth asking them by email, or phone.
lerikske Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 Hello I send an email to Custy's shop in Ennis it seems that they have the CD. But unfortunately, I can't order it by the site so I wait for a purchase order or banking references to order it. If I don't receive them, I will try to the second adress from Theo. I hope I will have that CD... one day.... or in a next life Thank you all
michael sam wild Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 In the past I have posted a letter containg Euros in cash with my request. They were very good and quick
lerikske Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 In the past I have posted a letter containg Euros in cash with my request. They were very good and quick Well, I already had some problems of "disappeared" sendings or “supposedly” ever arrived. Therefore, it is a way of payment which I do not use any more. Anyway,I am a little disappointed not to have received yet some news of Custy shop concerning a purchase order or banking references. Probably that annoy them at the administrative point. sob... But I understand, I do not like the administratives complications myself. Thus I will try other folk music stores.
Randy Stein Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 The Smithsonian Museum here in the states created Folkways Music and has hundreds of recordings some including works of and by concertina players. http://www.emusic.com/label/Folkways-Records-Smithsonian-Folkways-MP3-Download/133495.html Also Richard Carlin's recording of the history of concertina if you are so inclined: http://www.amazon.com/History-Crabb-Concertina-Firm/dp/B000UXSXC4 rss
