Hello Franck,

I'd like to know if you only build instruments with 30 buttons or if you would consider making one with a few extra ones ?

Thanks for reply

Well I'm not completely sure yet... I'm dreaming of a G/D with, say, 32 to 36 buttons.

Precise number will depend upon what can be proposed by makers, what will be the dimension, weight, price, etc...

I'm far from being close to ordering an instrument right now, just "prospecting" what could be proposed by

present makers.

You website only deals with 30b (and also 24b but as I understood you don't make them anymore) so I was

wondering if you ever made (or would consider making) other models with more buttons.

Probably not for a one off instrument, especially G/D. It would involve a larger box. One of the reasons that the instruments can be affordable is the fact that some of the parts,i.e. grills are cuts by laser. This can be expensive unless 30 or more sets are made at the same time. You give up some flexibility in design, but the overall accuracy and quality of the cuts is excellent. This reduces the cost per instrument, but improves quality. I would not use any method which may compromise quality. It still takes about 80 hours to make one of my concertinas, because of the amount of hand work involved, and many of the improvements I have made over the years take more time to install. If I had enough orders for a 32 - 36 button instrument, I may consider it.

thanks for the answer.

I perfectly understand that with your choice of construction,

in particular laser-cut grills, you prefer not to make one-off instruments.

It's a matter of economics. I have cut out grills by hand. It is a time consuming task. This extra time would have to be reflected in the cost, and I the result would not be any cleaner or more accurately done. I have a very attractive grill design and see no necessity of making every one different. I do get a degree of individualisn by using different woods and wood grains, or combination of woods or other detailing. The main thing is to have an attractive, well constructed instrument with excellent tone and response.
